Palestinian foreign minister: Our children are targeted by ‘occupation forces’; Israel’s UN ambassador: Palestinian attacks are unprovoked.
WASHINGTON – The political gap between Israel and the Palestinians was illustrated on Thursday during a UN Security Council session, with both Israeli and Palestinian representatives making accusations regarding the current violence.
Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the international body, rejected the concept of a “cycle of violence”, arguing that terror attacks against Israelis were unprovoked.
Riyad al-Maliki, the Palestinian foreign minister, placed the blame squarely on Israeli “incitement and provocations” and a lack of international intervention.
Danon said the occasion was not the way he envisioned his first address at the Security Council, coming as it did during a time of heightened violence at home.
